 Cork Travel Information

Overview

Direct scheduled and charter flights link Cork to destinations in Ireland, the UK and continental Europe. Regular ferries link Cork with the UK and France. You can get to most places in Ireland from Cork by bus, and there are regular train services to Dublin, Limerick, Tralee and Killarney.

Cork Airport

Cork Airport's new terminal building opened on Tuesday the 1st of August 2006 for arriving passengers and from Tuesday August 15th 2006 all flights now operate from Ireland's only 21st century airport.[see below for more] The new terminal has 30 check-in desks and six times the baggage capacity of the former terminal at Cork.

Aerlingus flight departing ORK, with new terminal in backgroundThe new terminal is designed to cater for the expected 3 million passengers this year and has the capacity to expand to take up to 5 million passengers a year. In time 4 air bridges will be in operation, but for the time being only 1 air-bridge is in operation. The terminal has an increased number of shops, bars and restaurants, including a Subway and a Starbucks. The terminal design allows for pier extensions at the side to boost the capacity to more than 5 million passengers per annum if and when the need arises. When this is achieved more airbridges may be added to operations at Cork Airport.

Ferry

The ferry terminal is at Ringaskiddy, about 15 minutes by car southeast from the city centre along the N28. Bus Eireann runs a fairly frequent daily service to the terminal; the journey takes 45 minutes. Regular ferries link Cork with the UK and France.
